What is the most rewarding thing about being a mother? Biggest joys? Biggest challenges?

The most rewarding thing about being a mother is seeing Zack change and grow. He amazes me with his personality and sense of humor. I’m realizing that he is more like his father everyday. The biggest challenge is teaching him right from wrong. He is so young that he doesn’t understand it yet but I believe reinforcement is the key.

Fave baby clothing brands?

I sell vintage clothing so hand-me-downs are in my blood! My older sister Lily kept her favorite things she got for her son Simon so Zack is inheriting some amazing Grateful Dead tees and Stella McCartney for Gap pieces. I thought it wouldn’t be as much fun dressing a boy as it would be a girl but I was so wrong! Thanks to amazing brands like Love Me Baby, Zara baby, Rowdy Sprout and Mini Mioche, Zack is always looking cute and stylish. My husband dresses him like his mini me so he is usually wearing a rock band tee and Vans.

You named your little boy Zack - Where did you find inspiration? How did you decide on that name?

We didn’t find out the sex so we had one boy name and one girl name picked out. Zack was one of the only names we could agree on. Dan’s guitar hero is named Zakk Wylde and he says that definitely had influence on him. Zack Morris of Saved by the Bell was always my favorite so he might have influenced me ;)

As the Fashion Director of Vintage Couture and someone who is so involved in the fashion world, has your personal style changed since you’ve become a mom?

Most days I go fresh faced without makeup on but I always try to pull myself together. No one wants to see you in sweatpants and it doesn’t make you feel better about yourself either. It really doesn’t take that much effort to pick out something that is both comfortable and stylish. In the end it always feels better to be put together because I never know where my day will take me; a mommy group, the Vintage Couture showroom or even out to see a client.  Vintage is always a part of my daily style but where in the past it might have been a dress it is now a handbag or a piece of jewelry.

What have you learned about balancing motherhood with your career?

A lot of our work at can be done online which allows me to spend more time with Zack during the day. But it is also good for Zack to see me leave and come home. Seeing the smile on his face when I walk in at the end of the day melts my heart. I work with my mother, Lynda Latner, so I was always looped into what was going on while I was on maternity leave. But being able to be in the showroom and involved again on a daily basis has really given me a new lease on motherhood. I love what I do and I love being a mom!

Go-to fam vacation spot? Why?

We love going to Florida. My parents have a place in Key Biscayne and we go down there a few times a year. Zack loves the beach and being able to spend quality time with is grandparents. Key Biscayne is a small community so we usually walk to the park and the local Cuban coffee spot with Zack in a blue push car. He loves it and even turns the wheel like he is actually driving. And you can’t beat the Florida weather. I loved not having to wrestle him into a winter coat this season.

What is your fave restaurant in Toronto?

We so rarely get to go out for a meal that we tend to stick to the same spots; Nota Bene for a romantic dinner, Dim Sum brunch at Dynasty and Fat Pasha for a Middle Eastern fix.

Sunday night tradition?

After we put Zack to bed we order our favorite take out and watch a movie or marathon a show. Sometimes we have friends and family over but usually it is just the two of us in our sweats.

With the power and influence of social media such as Instagram, how do you draw the line about what you think is appropriate to post of your kid? As a mother do you enjoy and/or find it beneficial to share photos and videos your family on social media platforms?

I have quite a few followers on Instagram and Twitter, which is partly due to my husband’s success as a musician and the people he has worked with in the past. Therefore, I have shied away from posting too many photos of Zack on those social media platforms. While I love seeing how other people put themselves and their families out there on Instagram, I just don’t feel as comfortable because I safeguard my family’s privacy.  I love using SnapChat to send quick videos and pics of Zack to friends and family; I can control who sees it and the filters they have are so entertaining!

Any last words of wisdom for our fellow new moms?

Being a mom is hard, especially a new mom. There were times when I was so focused on the littlest thing that was going wrong that I couldn’t step away from it and see the bigger picture. In the moment, especially late at night, it is hard to not Google a million things and really freak out. One thing that really helped was downloading the app Wonder Weeks. Babies cry, all the time, but what Wonder Weeks tells you is that fussiness isn’t always a bad thing. Another great piece of advice someone told me was to never wish away any stage. Kids change so quickly and every stage is different. But you are never going to get that moment back so be in the moment.
